The families depicted in this novel are fiercely committed to privacy. They have privacy attorneys, privacy consultants, privacy landscaping, privacy helicopters, privacy yachts, and, naturally, privacy chefs.

Most importantly, they have Non-Disclosure Agreements.

NDAs are marvelous inventions. They reassure the wealthy that paper is stronger than memory and that signatures are more durable than conscience. Every nanny signs one. Every driver signs one. Every chef signs one. The florist probably signs one. The dog may have signed one.

Fortunately, the law is far less impressed by expensive stationery.

As a friendly reminder, confiscating an employee's passport, restricting their movement, threatening immigration consequences, withholding wages, or using coercion to prevent someone from leaving a job are not "executive management techniques." In many jurisdictions, they are indicators of labor trafficking—an offense taken rather seriously by courts in both the United States and many countries around the world.

But surely that couldn't apply to you.

After all, your attorneys return calls within minutes, your publicist has everyone's personal cell phone number, and your Christian Louboutins have never once touched ordinary pavement. Rules, after all, are for people who fly commercial.

This novel, however, flies coach.

If any reader recognizes themselves in these pages, the author gently suggests that self-reflection is considerably less expensive than litigation.
