For more than four decades, Gwen Cassady has had a front-row seat to one of the world's most fascinating professions—caring for children.
From neighborhood babysitting as a young girl in Indiana to working with families across the United States and around the world, Gwen has spent much of her life helping children learn, grow, and thrive. Along the way, she discovered that behind every front door is a unique story, and behind every family are moments of love, laughter, resilience, and sometimes heartbreak.
Throughout her career, Gwen has worked with families from many walks of life—including military families, entrepreneurs, ultra-high-net-worth households, and international families—experiences that offered an extraordinary glimpse into the universal hopes parents hold for their children.
Nanny Next Door grew from those experiences.
While inspired by real moments, the novel is a work of fiction that explores the relationships, challenges, and quiet triumphs of the caregivers who often become trusted members of a family while remaining largely invisible to the outside world.
Beyond writing, Gwen is an economist, educator, documentary filmmaker, and the founder of Blue Mosaic, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children, strengthening communities, and advancing education and human rights. She has lived, worked, studied, or traveled in more than 65 countries across all seven continents, experiences that continue to shape both her writing and her understanding of people.
When she isn't writing, Gwen enjoys hiking with her foster dogs in Shenandoah National Park, exploring local food cultures around the world, photographing nature, and searching for the next great story waiting to be told.
She believes every child deserves to feel safe, every family deserves hope, and every story has the power to change a life.
